I love having time for extensive photoshoots. This feeling after the last exam when the whole summer is lying ahead of me like a blank canvas just waiting for me to seize it and to CREATE. So the first thing I did was grab my camera and head out on a lovely warm summer night to shoot this outfit that had been in the queue for quite a while. As I mentioned in one of my previous outfit posts a lot of what inspires me today is what inspired me way back in the early 2000s when I first started getting interested in topics like fashion and photography. It’s almost as if I could feel those vibes again that sparked my creativity 15 years ago.
Rummaging through the book-shelf in my living room in search of whatever recently I happened upon a “mood book” I created back then (in an actual book on actual paper). It contains snippets from fashion magazines, advertisements and images of all kinds I had neatly glued in. I had completely forgotten about this book and was so happy to have stumbled upon this treasure. And as I flipped through the pages I re-discovered all the pieces, cuts and fabrics lil’ Liza was dying to wear once she was grown-up enough to pull them off. All the lingerie tops, the delicate lace, the velvet, all those dark romantic vibes – at the moment I just can’t resist to stock up on those items I have lusted after for so many years.
I had to look for the perfect lingerie top for quite a while. As the lace and satin aren’t stretchy most of them were simply too tight in the chest area. I went for a more lose fit as in this case it’s perfectly fine for the bra to show – a black lace bra or bralet blends in nicely with the black lace of the top. I found this top online at H&M – it wasn’t even available in the stores in my hometown. As the word lingerie top suggests this piece is supposed to remind us of elegant nightwear. As always though I like to make sure it doesn’t look like I left the house in my pajamas. I made sure to add pants of a different fabric as well as accessories.
The pants are – you guessed it – velvet. I got them at H&M as well early this year before my trip to Paris. Velvet is so awesomely romantic, soft and comfy and I love how it’s a bit of a change from your regular jeans and leggings. This look really unites all of my favorite fabrics – early-2000s-Liza would be delighted.
I added this delicate vintage necklace. I inherited it from my grandma so it’s not only a real vintage treasure it also holds a lot of emotional value. This top and necklace look like they were made for each other – notice how the shape of the necklace mirrors the lace neckline of the top? Love the look of them together! I topped the outfit off with my platform chelsea boots from Schuhtempel24.
I could see myself wearing this to a summer dinner date – a small ornate table near the river, a delicious fresh meal, warm crispy bread straight from the oven, two glasses of white wine. And a deep conversation.
