Today I would like to share a summer outfit that I had been planning out in my head for ages and actually already shot half a month ago. I named it Date Night as I envisioned it as a dinner outfit for a lovely summer night.
I had been wanting to get a soft pink maxi skirt for a very long time and was very excited when I found this one at Vero Moda. I have actually started writing a whole post about finding pieces that create a very flattering silhouette so I’m not gonna go into too much detail here. I’ll just say that maxi skirts make your legs look impossibly long and are therefore a true fav of mine. Also, as the summer was and still is very hot in my area, I really wanted to wear something light and flowy as well as very romantic. The skirt definitely checks these boxes and would be my first choice for a summer date night. I further accentuated my waist by adding a belt, creating a very flattering shape.
As the look is supposed to be a date night outfit, I wanted to create the right balance between romantic and sexy. The crop top is definitely a little more revealing than the skirt and I love the little choker detail. The top was originally from Topshop, but I bought it second hand. I decided to wear a coin necklace with the top, however, due to the choker detail it would also look perfect without additional jewelry. What I like about the top and skirt combo is, that they really balance each other out: while the bodycon top shows more skin and reveals the shape of the body, the maxi skirt pretty much hides everything. I always enjoy playing with sexy vs. modest elements in my looks.
I added my belt bracelet to match the actual belt but I could totally see this outfit work with some delicate gold bracelets as well. As for shoes, it’s important to choose the right height, so your maxi skirt will almost touch the floor but not drag on the floor and get dirty. I would actually recommend choosing a maxi skirt considering the shoes you will most likely be wearing it with.
Just wearing this look makes me fantasize about having a lovely dinner by the river or maybe a beautiful picnic during sunset. Sipping a glass of summer wine, tasting fresh bread, sweet tomatos and ripe grapes while the blue sky slowly turns into molten gold to a symphony of birds and cicadas. As it simply doesn’t get cold at night, we would still sit there as the stars come up and the evening sky turns from gold to pink to blue to black.
